Emily joined Lexicon as a linguist in 2018, working primarily in linguistic development, research, and creative development. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from UC Davis and a BA in Linguistics, Spanish, and TESOL from the University of Florida. A former Fulbright English Teaching Fellow in Spain, Emily has strong interests in the use of English by speakers of other languages, sociolinguistics, and the interface of reading and pronunciation. Her research background includes projects on literacy learning, slang/linguistic innovation, indigenous language documentation and revitalization, translation studies, and gender and language. Her off-duty love of words carries into her affinities for poetry, fiction, and bad puns.
